When the weather's nice (above 40 degrees with no precipitation in the forecast) I like to hang my laundry on my backyard clothesline. And with the hot weather we've had this summer, it's been prime clothesline time.
Just think of the money I'm saving by not running my dryer! Besides, it's nice to be outside in the early morning with no one but the birds, squirrels and bunnies for company. Using a clothesline is very environmentally friendly, too!
Unfortunately, I missed several weeks of the best clothes-drying weather ever because of the pool. I had a 35-foot clothesline with six ropes on it, meaning I could dry about three full loads of laundry at a time. That line stretched across most of the backyard. So when we put up the pool, that clothesline had to go.
It took a while before the yard was in good enough shape for us to install a new clothesline. Keeping the old one was out of the question, since it no longer fit in the space we had left. I wound up choosing one of those "umbrella" type clotheslines that opens up into a large square and spins around in the breeze. It's convenient, especially since I can take it down when I'm not using it or when the weather gets stormy.
