Need a pet-sitter? My daughter's happy to take on the job.
Recently our neighbors went on vacation for a couple of days. They asked Miss Freshman if she'd like to take care of Fluffy so he could stay at home rather than go to a kennel. She was thrilled for the opportunity.
The first night, she worried because Fluffy wasn't eating. He doesn't like to eat when his family isn't home. And he didn't eat very much in the morning either. She took him for a nice long walk and played in the yard with him for a while, hoping to cheer him up. But as soon as she'd leave, he'd appear in the front window, staring sadly in the direction of our house.
In the afternoon, she carried her summer-reading book, a bag of pretzels and a can of soda over to Fluffy's house. She figured that Fluffy was lonely for company, so she'd sit there with her homework and snack. Her canine buddy was very happy to see her.
After dinner, she couldn't take it anymore. She took Fluffy for a walk and then brought him to our house, along with his food and water dishes. He spent the next few hours exploring our house, checking out the couches and chairs, and sitting with each of us. I drew the line at inviting the dog as an overnight guest, but allowed him to return in the morning for awhile until his owners returned.
It's a good thing I like Fluffy. I wouldn't allow my daughter to do this with just any dog.
