My college-bound son received a letter last week from the Student Housing office at the university he'll be attending this fall. He tore it open, thinking it was a notice about who his roommate would be.
No such luck--all he got was an ad from some company that offers to do the shopping for the kids. For the low, low price of over $300, this company would outfit him with a bedspread, two sets of sheets, one mattress pad, one blanket, one pillow, and two sets of towels.
Are they kidding? What is this bedding made of, silk? (Like I'd send silk bedding off to college with a kid whose experience with washing machines is limited at best. I want him to get something durable--like denim. I'm sure he can't ruin that in the dorm's laundry.)
A quick search of our Bed & Bath deals convinced me that I could outfit him with linens for half that price--possibly less than that.
We're not falling for any dorm-room scams; we've got internet shopping on our side.
