I've begun to notice a trend at my local library. Most of the books on home organization are either missing or overdue.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. When my house is at its worst, I get motivated: to read about organizing my home. Clearly I'm not alone in this.
This week we're getting ready for a party to celebrate the kids' graduations and First Communion, and instead of cooking and cleaning, my first impulse is to sit down with a Pottery Barn catalog and dream of what my house could look like. If only there weren't kids and teenagers doing their best to undo everything I try to do, that is.
All the books on home organization say the same thing: the system won't work for you unless you work within the system. But wouldn't it be nice if we could get organized by osmosis? That pile of books and magazines and catalogs is nothing but potential.
I know I could get organized beyond belief--and my kitchen could look just like this picture--if only I had matching accessories, unlimited space, and a lock to keep the kids out of the room entirely.
