Even as teenagers wear pajama pants to school, the mall, and just about anywhere else they can, younger kids seem to be dumping pajamas in favor of wearing regular clothes to sleep. 
My eight-year-old's favorite "pajamas" are gym shorts and oversized t-shirts that he inherited from his brother and the boy next door. That makes for an interesting look, since those t-shirts are often so long that they cover the gym shorts entirely.
In the winter, this same child will deign to wear pajama pants, but his ability to create an outfit that matches or even "goes" (as Stacy and Clinton of What Not to Wear would say) is sorely lacking. His preferred cold-weather sleepwear consists of "Guitar Hero" pajama pants and a dark-green camo long-sleeved t-shirt.
Sometimes I think I'd rather have him emulate the teenagers and want to wear pajamas everywhere!
