Every time I go to the doctor's office for a checkup, I get a lecture because I honestly answer the question, "How much exercise do you get?"

My response is usually along the lines of, "Does carrying full baskets of laundry up two flights of stairs a few times a day count?"

My doctor doesn't think that's enough.  And I'm beginning to think he's right, judging by the state of my waistline and the fit of my clothes.  But exercise is so boring!

I thought about getting those new sneakers that claim to help tone your muscles wherever you walk or stand, so that my normal activities of carrying laundry, making dinner and washing dishes would give me a better-toned butt.  Those big bottoms on the shoes turn me off, though--even if they promise to give me a smaller bottom.

I did discover, quite by accident, that if I download a 30-minute podcast onto my iPod, I'll keep walking until the podcast is over.  That might be the best way to get me out the door and walking around--without baskets of laundry.
