She's not a kid anymore. Sigh.
Tonight my daughter will put on her cap and gown and graduate from elementary school.
Last night she attended the eighth-grade dinner dance, wearing a beautiful dress and fancy shoes, and sporting her first-ever manicure.
I guarantee that after the graduation ceremony, my husband will come home and wander around the house, looking at all the pictures we have of her as a baby, toddler and little girl, and wonder where the time went.
Sometimes we long for those preschool years when she wanted to wear her Snow White dress day after day after day, summer or winter, rain or shine. Or the early-elementary school years when her uniform was a jumper and blouse, not a skirt and golf shirt that had to be tucked in (oh, those daily battles over tucking in that golf shirt...) Now the storm will be brewing over the length of next year's skort.
Some things still haven't changed. She still likes a skirt she can "twirl" in, but now it's because she learned the tango in Spanish class. And, as always, she chooses colors as bright as possible. Look at her wardrobe, and you'll see very few pastels. Even her hair accessories are brightly colored.
But tonight, her cap and gown will be white, and her smile will be huge. It'll match our proud smiles. Congratulations, Class of 2010!
