My daughter has found the secret to keeping cool in the summertime: homemade coffee drinks.
She hauled out my blender, which hadn't seen the light of day in several years,
and started experimenting with "frappuccino-clone" recipes we found on the internet. Finally we took a little of this and a little of that, and came up with a recipe for a drink that she and her friends have been enjoying on the hottest days.
Here's the recipe for one drink.
- 1 cup cold coffee (strong coffee works best)
- 1/3 cup milk
- sugar to taste
- 2 tbl chocolate syrup for mocha frappuccino, or caramel syrup for caramel frappuccino
- whipped cream
- ice cubes
Place coffee, milk, sugar and syrup in blender. Add enough ice cubes so that they're sticking up above the surface of the other ingredients. Cover blender and blend until the ice is crushed and the drink is mixed. Pour into a tall glass and top with whipped cream. If desired, drizzle a little extra syrup on top, or shake on a touch of cinnamon.
I've started keeping leftover coffee in a jar in the fridge so that we can have these drinks anytime. For even more coffee flavor, freeze some extra coffee as ice cubes and use those instead of plain ice in the drink.
