No, my spellcheck isn't on the fritz. I'm borrowing that deliberate misspelling so I can take this opportunity to conGRADulate my older son, who graduates high school this evening.
Wasn't it just yesterday that I was buying his freshman-year uniform shoes ($80!) and trying to find his summer-reading books on sale?
Tonight, he and his friends will put on their maroon and white robes, caps, and medals for academic and performing-arts awards. Yesterday they sat in my family room plotting ways to decorate their mortarboards and still pass the pre-ceremony inspection by the vice principal.
The yearbooks are signed, graduation parties planned and they've all made sure to "friend" each other on facebook so they won't fall out of touch. All they need now is their diplomas.
All I need now is a big box of tissues.
