My sister enjoys her reputation as The Cool Aunt among her many nieces and nephews.  This is partly because they think she has great taste in music, and partly due to her vast knowledge of outdoor games and sports--and her willingness to drop everything and have fun.  That has served her well in her career as a physical-education teacher as well as her tenure as The Cool Aunt.

She has a reputation for giving cool gifts, too.  Now some might think that giving clothes to kids under 10 (and boys of any age) is a big no-no if you want to be considered The Cool Aunt.  But she knows how to work it.

When my youngest son turned 8, she gave him clothes as a gift.  "Bo-ring!" he thought, until he peeked in the bag, where he found t-shirts with glow-in-the-dark logos and a pair of swim trunks with a pair of bonus goggles.  With the rate at which my kids go through goggles, this was a welcome sight to me.  I can't keep track of the things, but that's a story for another day.  Suffice it to say that the goggles and glow-in-the-dark shirts took that gift bag of clothes from ho-hum to awesome.
