A trip to visit my extended family involves about five hours in the car, so we don't often travel without snacks in tow. Our favorite snack for the road are "Philly pretzels," those soft, fat pretzels that are still hot when you get them--if you're lucky. 
We like to stop at the pretzel bakery near the highway and pick up a bag of those delicious and non-messy treats to enjoy in the car and share with our family when we arrive at our destination.
But it's not only family minivans that drive up to the pretzel bakery. Last time we went there, I was nearly run over by a couple of preschoolers in a Power Wheels Escalade, tailed by their mom, whose mode of transportation was a pair of running shoes.
To borrow a phrase from Rain Man, these kids were not "excellent drivers." Slow, yes. Power Wheels can go at a top speed of 5 miles per hour--about the same speed as a fast walker, but a little faster than the kids' mom was comfortable with. They weren't too experienced at steering their little SUV, either. I can only imagine what it was like for nearby pedestrians on their way home from the store, when they'd be driving and eating at the same time.
I wonder if their mom regretted her decision to let the kids drive to the store?
