Ava is two.
I don't know Ava. She lives in the next block, and we've never met.
But yesterday, as I drove my younger kids, and my daughter's science-fair project that was too big to fit on the bus, to school, we passed Ava's house. My daughter declared, "Ava's two!"
On my way back home, I realized the reason for my daughter's announcement. The front door of Ava's house was covered in a giant pink "2." Down the window alongside the door were the letters of Ava's name.
Luckily, she wasn't named Elizabeth, Victoria or Margaret. That would never have fit in the window!
A few weeks ago, there was a nearby house all decorated for an outdoor party. A closer look revealed that the front lightpost was wrapped in pink and white tulle with sparkly silver ribbons. Nearer the house was a garden banner reading, "First Holy Communion."
Way to make me feel inadequate. My kids received their First Holy Communion without so much as a "Congratulations" mylar balloon. Clearly my decorating skills are not on par with the neighbors'.
I wouldn't expect much more than "the usual" at our big party later this spring (two graduations, one First Communion). And by "the usual" I mean plastic tablecloths in the kids' school colors. I'm hoping the food will be so fabulous that no one will notice my lack of decorating ability.
