Today you sent home a note with my child, requesting a food item for a class party three school days from now.
That food item is not the kind of thing I ordinarily keep in my pantry. 
Of course, the Classroom-Party Corollary to Murphy's Law has once again been proven true: Teachers will only send home requests for food items within the first 24 hours after parents have completed the week's grocery shopping.
Yes, I try to do the grocery shopping only once a week. That's why I have a pantry. It's full, but it's only full of stuff that we'll ordinarily eat.
A little more notice would have gone a long way--and saved me some time and gas, not to mention keeping me out of the way of temptation. After all, who can go into the grocery store and buy only one thing?
