My daughter has developed this habit of leaving her radio on when she leaves her room.

I can hear the music floating down the stairs. So the next time I go upstairs, I stop in there and turn off the music.  Usually she's right behind me, turning it on again because she came into the room for 30 seconds to look for a pencil.

It's not just the noise; sometimes I can block that out.  But it is a waste of electricity to leave radios (and lights) on when no one's in the room.  So as I teased her about this habit she has, I remembered that there might be an easy solution.

I'm still amazed that she wants to go for it:  she wants me to buy her a Clapper.  She can clap when she enters the room to turn on her music, and clap again when she walks out, to turn it off.

She'll be the only eighth-grader in town with a gadget that's marketed mostly to senior citizens.  But if it works, why not?  She'll get to enjoy her music, and there will be one less thing to nag her about.
