As I've walked around my neighborhood recently, I've noticed that an awful lot of lawns have something in common--and it's not dandelions. It's "For Sale" signs. 
We're not moving anytime soon, but it looks like plenty of the neighbors are. So things are looking pretty spiffy in this part of town. When people put their house on the market, they suddenly replant neglected, bedraggled flowerbeds, fix cracked driveways, and invest in a new roof.
From the looks of things, the contractors are as busy as the realtors. I've seen (and heard) roofers, tree trimmers, and window installers, as well as carpet cleaners and hardwood-floor restorers. Folks are painting their front doors and hanging new shutters.
So as I hope that the new neighbors on the block will be friendly and maybe even have a little boy my son's age so he can have a new playmate, I'm enjoying the increased curb appeal of my neighborhood.
