My mom still talks about the time she took my older son to the store and offered to let him choose a candy bar at the checkout stand.
He was four or five years old at the time, and the ice cream Mom was buying was practically soft-serve by the time that kid narrowed down his candy selection.
It was a long time before she took any of the grandchildren shopping again.
I've learned that my younger son is the same way when it comes to shopping for himself. He just cannot make up his mind. That's why I'm dreading the day (and I know it's coming) when he decides he wants to spend the toy-store gift cards he received from friends at his birthday party.
Apparently it's the trend now to give gift cards at birthday parties (or even cash, in a card) instead of buying a present for the birthday child. I'm one of the few parents who actually goes shopping when my kid is invited to attend a friend's party. Everyone else just picks up a gift card and calls it a day. But when your kid is on the receiving end of a gift card (or cash), he's going to want to spend it, and that means you get the joy of taking your kid to the store, where he wants everything in sight and takes three hours to decide how he's going to invest his gift card.
I wonder if I could convince him to do his shopping online. It would be a lot easier on my sanity (and my feet!)
