Yesterday I went around the house hiding all the rubber bands, the Saran Wrap, and the masking tape--because today is April Fool's Day and I have children. 
My daughter mentioned as far back as late September that she can't wait for this day, and she had to start planning ahead.
And while there might be some times when I'll admit to missing my life as a teacher, April Fool's Day is definitely not one of those times.
The rubber bands had to go, because my two teenagers believe that it is the height of April Fool's Day humor to wrap them around the kitchen-faucet sprayer so that the next person who turns on the water will get a shower. Last time that happened, my cookbooks got drenched--all the way across the room. I'm not taking any chances.
Fortunately, my younger son is still in the stage where the best April Fool's Day joke is to yell something like, "It's snowing" so everyone else runs to the window. His teacher's going to have a fun day today.
Meanwhile, I'll rely on my older son to let me know about the April Fool's Day radio commercials and websites that celebrate the day with hoaxes like the famous Taco Bell "purchase of the Liberty Bell" in 1996. That kind of thing is good for a laugh, and no one gets a face full of water, either!
