Just because today's teenagers are accustomed only to music in digital format doesn't mean they're not interested in other formats.
My son and his friends are a good example of that. They've all got their iPods or Zunes, full of their favorite contemporary and classic rock. But last weekend, as they hung out on my back porch after a rainstorm put an early end to their plans for a campfire and s'mores, they hauled out our stereo turntable and collection of music on vinyl.
After an evening sampling everything my husband's and my record collection had to offer, several of them went home and downloaded some classics they hadn't heard before.
Besides, album art is much cooler when it's larger than the 5X5-inch picture you get on a CD. (These same kids go to vintage-record stores and buy albums for the cover art. They don't care if the records are scratched--they want the sleeves to decorate their rooms.)
And it was pretty funny when they switched from playing 45s to whole albums. They didn't realize that you have to adjust the turntable speed when you do that. Amazing--the grownups knew something the kids didn't. That's a moment you have to savor when you get one!
