It's March, and if you've ever been a first-grader, then you're familiar with the old phrase,
"March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb."
If there's a preschooler or primary-school student in your house right now, then you can expect to see the craft projects: lions with yarn manes, lambs with cotton-ball wool. I've got three sets of those in the "cute school projects we must save for posterity" box. Barring that, there are always cupcakes (yum!)
It's that time of year, though--that time when pictures of cute and cuddly little animals of all kinds start to bring on that pet hunger in animal lovers like my daughter. She's been walking around the corner to the pet shop and coming back here with tales of rescue greyhounds, tiny kittens and furry hamsters--the kind she promises will never, ever smell bad.
A lion is just a big cat, she realizes; she'd settle for a small one. Or a lamb--that could be useful to have around. It would save her brother hours on lawnmowing, and we wouldn't have to put gas in it either.
I think she's going to have to settle for the cupcakes.

I have a couple pre-schoolers and I am starting to see the lamb theme come home with them. Although all they can talk about is a horse at our house. Not sure it would fit in the backyard though!
