With three kids in the house who range in age from 7 to 18, I've seen my share of lunchboxes come and go.   lunchboxesMy younger son, in particular, is tough on lunchboxes.  We haven't even reached the all-important 100th day of school yet (and that day might be pushed back to April if it doesn't stop snowing around here), but I had to buy him his second new lunchbox this year.  I'm kind of curious about what he does to those lunchboxes to kill them as frequently as he does--but at the same time, it might be better if I don't know.

I've concluded that I'm just not fond of those soft-sided lunchboxes, which are the only thing you can find in the stores anymore.  Sure, they keep your food cold.  Sure, the insides are fairly easy to keep clean.  But the outsides get filthy, the handles fall off, and what happens when your child's fork stabs the lining of the lunchbox?  I'm just not sure that's supposed to be pierced.  Exactly what is inside that lining anyway?

I'm all for bringing back those hard plastic or metal lunchboxes that we all carried to school.  Those things lasted years.  Have they gone out of fashion because they can also double as a weapon?
