Recently on a local news program, a reporter and some friends tested out an "As Seen on TV" product.
In this case, it was a silicone pan set that would make a cake that looked like a giant cupcake.
How can you miss? Who doesn't love cupcakes?
Cupcakes are not just for kids anymore. There are entire bakeries devoted just to cupcakes--and these cupcakes are absolutely works of art. They're pricey too: one "cupcakery" charges $27.50 per dozen, and another gets $33 for a dozen delicious mini-cakes.
That's a lot of buttercream, folks. And that might have sparked the "let's make it at home" movement. I'm all for that--it's fun to bake cakes at home, and you can customize the decorating to suit your family's preferences.
You'd want to know ahead of time, though, if a specialty cake pan is going to do the job for you. There were some interesting surprises on that news segment--but the family did conclude that they enjoyed baking together, and the result was delicious, if not picture-perfect.
