We have never seen so much snow around here; in the Philadelphia, PA area we've received over 70
inches of snow this season. Normal seasonal snowfall around here is about 20 inches.
There's a new driver in the house, and this is his first winter behind the wheel. So my husband is constantly informing him that in snowy conditions, every stop sign is a possible death trap.
And for the record, it's not a good idea to drive around with several inches of snow on top of your car, truck or van. Last Friday morning I passed a pickup truck that not only had snow on its roof, but its windshield was half-covered with snow.
It's tough for people who are, um, height-challenged like myself to clean a foot or more of snow off the roof of a minivan. Fortunately, I have a couple of teenagers who were perfectly happy to climb up on top of my van with a broom and sweep off the snow. They figured that if they fell, they could just aim for one of the four-foot snowpiles surrounding the driveway.
But it's a job that's got to be done. As a columnist in my local newspaper said, "If you're ambitious enough to go out in the snow storm, you should be ambitious enough to clean all the snow off your vehicle."
