I'm not good at arts and crafts. When I was in fifth grade and took home economics, I practically flunked apron-making. 
And I'm really glad that I have a few more years before I'll have a Boy Scout earning merit badges again, because I hate to sew them on to the uniform.
So it drives me crazy when we buy a new article of clothing and all the buttons are loose before the garment is even worn. That happens more often than not!
A couple of weeks ago, my daughter used some gift cards she'd received for Christmas for an online shopping spree. (Of course, she stopped here first for the best deals!) One thing she bought was a stylish black peacoat with silver buttons.
The first day she wore that coat, she lost a button. Soon buttons were falling off the coat no matter where she turned. Finally she handed me the jacket and a handful of buttons, and I got busy with a needle and thread. But they're still falling off--the knots are coming right through the fabric. So now it's time for me to hit the craft store so I can buy buttons to sew on the inside of the jacket at the same time and in the same spot as the outside buttons. This way the same thread will pass through both buttons and they'll stay on better.
