I've started getting those little reminder messages every time I turn on the laptop: my antivirus subscription will run out in 10 days. 
We'll be taking care of that ASAP, because I am extremely impressed with my antivirus protection (which happens to be from AVG--see a great deal below!) When you use a computer as much as I do, both for work and for fun, you want to be careful about what sites you visit and what attachments you open. And you want to have the best antivirus protection you can get.
That became even more clear when an acquaintance of mine, who is (admittedly) cyber-challenged but who is required by her position in a certain organization to email the local leaders of this group, wound up the victim of an online "phishing" scheme. Everyone in the group got an email that claimed to be from this acquaintance, stating that she had traveled to England but had no money to get back and was in a state of dire financial emergency.
Many of us figured out that her email had been hacked, but others called her family at home to let them know that she was across the pond and in a pickle. She wound up spending the better part of a day personally calling everyone who had received these emails to assure them that she is perfectly fine, at home, and had merely been the victim of a "phishing" attack.
Yes, she changed her email address and deactivated the old one. But who knows the extent of the damage that could have been done?
Use your common sense to stay safe online--that includes keeping that antivirus (and anti-spyware) up-to-date! Get busy!
