This is not a bandwagon I'm sure I'm ready to jump onto.
I'm talking about the Kindle and other e-readers that have become popular in recent months.
In fact, this Christmas, Amazon reported that sales of Kindle books eclipsed sales of bound books. And I downloaded the Kindle app for my iPod touch, and put some books on there.
But I'm just not sure I want to give up my print editions.
That goes for newspapers too. I like holding and reading a newspaper, book or magazine. I like being able to turn the pages, to flip around and find just the spot I want, to reread where necessary and even skim through if that's what I feel like.
It doesn't bother me that print editions of books take up space. I like to think of my books as part of my decorating theme. There's no doubt in the mind of anyone who visits this house that around here, we love to read. And I believe that surrounding children with books and leading by example--reading for pleasure in front of my children as well as encouraging them to do the same--is the best way to foster a love of reading in children.
Holding a device with a screen and scrolling around on the pages just isn't the same.
