There are days when I'm really thankful that we decided to slipcover the family-room sofa rather than reupholster it.
Granted, that decision was all finance and no style, because the slipcover cost several hundred dollars less than a reuphostering job. But with kids in the house, a washable sofa is definitely a Good Thing.
I'm not sure Martha Stewart would approve, but she doesn't live here. My kids do. And they snack in the family room.
I defy you to show me a parent who's made a "no eating in the family room" rule stick. I've certainly never met one.
While the slipcover is a bit of a pain to put on and take off, it would be a lot bigger pain to try to clean red Jello off a non-washable sofa.
And as far as color choices go, I'm pretty happy that I chose a taupe color. That's been very forgiving. But if Jello continues to be on the menu, I might have to go with red the next time.

One Response to “Don't Eat Jello on the Couch!”
Slipcovers are a requisite in the era of shabby chic. Sure made a difference in many a college apartment.
