Those words should have been on the large sign atop the small car. Instead, the sign read "Driving School. STUDENT DRIVER."
There was no student driver in the car the day I pulled up next to it at a traffic light. The instructor was alone in the vehicle. And he was using the opportunity of a red light to eat, drink water, and use a cell phone at the wheel. He didn't stop multitasking when the light turned green, however.
My first order of business, when I notice someone driving with no hands because he's busy stuffing his face and talking on the phone, is to get myself and my car as far away from that other driver as possible. But the other traffic on the road didn't permit my evasive action, and I soon wound up with that car right behind me at the next light.
That's when I decided to take a little detour. Better to drive a few blocks out of my way than to have his front bumper slamming into the tailgate of my van, I figured.
Somebody needs to go back to driving school. Lucky for me, my kids' high school offers its own behind-the-wheel program, so I'll never have to send them to the school that hired a guy who has clearly forgotten the "10 and 2" rule. In fact, he's forgotten to keep his hands on the wheel at all. That's a great example for his students.

One Response to “Do As I Say, Not As I Do”
Thats way too funny, it's a great thing that they have started making talking on a cellphone and driving illegal.
