Two of my younger son's favorite presents this Christmas relate to his fascination with geography. glowing-globe

I think he'll want to do a good bit of traveling when he grows up. For Christmas this year, he asked for a globe. He got a really cool one that can light up and display the constellations as well as the continents, seas and oceans.  This morning before breakfast, he had to show me where Perseus is.

He was also given a kids' almanac, and it only took a few seconds before he dove right in.  It wouldn't have taken that long, but I had to explain to him what an almanac is.  Once he discovered that it had information about all the countries in the world as well as all the Presidents of the U.S., famous people, some world records and interesting places, he was hooked.

I remember that when I was in grade school, I used to page through the almanac and spin the globe, dreaming of trips to places far away.  I planned tours of South America since I wanted to learn to speak Spanish, as well as the Middle East because some neighbors of ours had emigrated from there.

Here's hoping that my son's new globe and almanac help him to dream of seeing the world, and that he finds a way to make those dreams a reality when he grows up.
