I'm a big fan of using grocery-store coupons, but not everyone agrees with me on that topic.  Mary Ostyn is a thrifty mom who manages to feed her family of 12 for under $900 a month--without using coupons. family-feasts-75

While I find that coupons are a great way to help me save money (last week I got 16 boxes of name-brand cereal FREE because I use coupons and combine them with store sales), clearly that's not the only way to save when you shop.  And groceries can take a big bite out of the household budget, especially when you're feeding teenagers.

With that in mind, I'm doing a little planning ahead right now.  The new year is coming up, and that always puts me in the mood to develop some good habits.  So I've been reading Mary Ostyn's new book, Family Feasts on $75 a Week.  She has some interesting recipes, and I'm always up to try a new recipe on my family of (usually) eager taste-testers.  But more than just recipes, she has some good strategies.

If you're interested in taking some time out to set financial goals for your family and find ways to cut back on household spending, Mary Ostyn's book is full of ideas on how to do just that.  From meal planning to price comparisons, pantry organization to warehouse-club buying, Ostyn covers all the bases.
