What are you looking forward to in the New Year? 
My favorite New Year's Day tradition is the Philadelphia Mummers Parade. I never go (it's way too cold to stand outside for an eight-hour parade) but I watch as much of it as I can on TV.
I love the colorful costumes, the huge variety of music, and the clever themes that are chosen for each group of performers. My favorites are the string bands, made up of brass instruments and banjos. Competition among these groups is fierce, and the parade is always a great show.
It's a good change of pace from the New Year's Day bowl games, so if you're tired of football, check and see if you can catch a little of Philly's favorite parade.
