There's a long-standing tradition at my kids' elementary school. The Monday before Christmas, the eighth graders stage what is known as The Reindeer Dance. 
You'd think that this would involve a DJ and some punch. But you'd be wrong.
Armed with a boom box and a bunch of candy canes, the kids travel to each classroom. Everyone is wearing costumes--they're either reindeer, elves, Santa or Mrs. Santa. They dance around to the tune of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and distribute peppermint treats to all the good little girls and boys (and even the not-so-good ones.)
Unfortunately for the craft-impaired parent like me, the school only provides costumes for Santa and Mrs. Claus. The rest of the kids are on their own. So the girls have decided to get together and make sure all their costumes look alike. I had to send in $2 for one mom to get antlers and $1 for another to get glitter paint. In turn, 8 other moms each owe me $4 for the green t-shirts I had to locate yesterday.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to get 9 green t-shirts the week before Christmas? Do you have any idea how insane a craft store is the week before Christmas?
We're still not done. Now my daughter informs me that she needs red tights and Christmas boxer shorts.
All for a performance that only takes place during the school day--so I won't even get to see it!
