The other day my older son went to a potluck party at a friend's home. His assignment was to bring beverages (non-alcoholic--these kids are still in high school.)
The next morning, a plate of gourmet chocolate-covered pretzels was sitting on the kitchen table.
When I asked where those came from, he said that since everyone had brought food to share at the party, there was so much food left that everyone had to take some home. Nobody took the same thing that they'd brought in the first place.
Potluck parties are always a lot of fun, especially when everyone brings a favorite food. For people who like to eat a wide variety of foods, potlucks are great. It's kind of like going to one of those "all-you-can-eat buffet" restaurants, but the chairs are comfier, you know everyone there, and you don't have to leave a tip. We'll be attending a potluck tonight, and (by the hosts' request) I always bring the same thing: chili cheese dip. I don't mind making the same dish year after year, since it's a favorite of mine as well as the party hosts'.
