Until late last summer, we were using the finished part of our basement as a home office. It was great to have a space to keep computer-programming books, financial records, extra toner for the printer, and Cub Scout files. 
Then we needed to convert that room into a temporary guest room for nearly four months. This meant that in order to have adequate space for our houseguest and her stuff, almost all of our home-office equipment was about to be homeless. The books stayed in the bookcase, as did the printer equipment. But all of our personal and business records, and all the Cub Scout stuff, wound up in the master bedroom.
Believe me when I say that no one needs model rocket launchers, merit badges, and the utility bills in the bedroom.
When our guest moved on, my first order of business was to get all that extra stuff out of the place where we sleep and back into the place where we work. It felt good to reclaim both the bedroom and the office.
The last step toward reclaiming that office will happen today; finally the extra-large all-in-one printer/copier/scanner/fax is leaving my small desktop and making its way down to the office. It was convenient having the printer right here, but I need the elbow room more.
