One day last week, my mom called to chat. During her call, she mentioned that she had run out of good stuff to read. I teased her about being "bookless," as Rain Man called it.
My mom and I are alike in that respect (as well as many others.) Neither one of us likes to be "bookless." And both of us usually have a pretty large pile of books to read, whether they're library books or bookstore purchases. A room with floor-to-ceiling bookcases on at least one wall is a not-so-secret dream of mine. If the people from the TV show Hoarders ever came to my house, they'd try to make me get rid of books.
Somehow, Mom made it through the last few days before Christmas on an as-yet-unread novel she found somewhere in her house. But she only got one book as a Christmas gift. Yes, I gave it to her. And she gave me three books, because we both believe that it just isn't Christmas without a new book to read.
My husband knows my love of reading and puts up with my ever-increasing book collection. He won't choose books for me, though. Instead, he gave me a generous gift card for my favorite bookstore. I'll be logging on to their website soon to place my order. I'm not going to be "bookless" anytime soon!

One Response to “Books Required”
Right on! Being "bookless' is like being sent to bed without supper. It's akin to punishment.
I just wish more people felt the same way about reading as we do.
