Here we are at the midpoint of BCS bowl-game season.  It seems like a season in itself, since it lasts from December 19 through January 7. bcs That's a lot of football.  Including tonight's game, there are 22 more bowls to be played.  If you're a college football fan, it's time to stock up on the chips and dip.

My favorite team declined a bowl bid this year--as they should, since their record was dismal.  Maybe once they get a defensive line together they'll merit a place in the bowls once again.  I will admit that since Notre Dame won't be playing in a bowl, I probably won't be watching many of these games.

I always did enjoy watching the names of the bowls change--and more bowls seem to be added every year.   I don't understand why football championships are called "bowls" anyway.  That makes me think more of bowling championships than football.

But it bothers me that these bowls aren't named after things that properly go in a bowl, with the exception if the Sugar Bowl.   Here are some of my suggestions for renaming these bowl games:

  • The SOUP BOWL
  • The CHILI BOWL
  • The CEREAL BOWL
  • The PASTA BOWL
  • The SALAD BOWL
  • The MIXING BOWL
  • And finally, the TOILET BOWL for the two Division I teams with the worst records in the league.  Maybe they could get it sponsored by a home-improvement store.
