There's a really big evergreen tree in front of my house. It's so big that my neighbors can't see into my living room from anywhere in their house--the tree completely blocks the view. If I wanted to, I could skip window treatments completely in the living room because of that tree. 
We keep it around because it's a good landmark (no one else has a tree like this, so in our cookie-cutter subdivision, it helps to distinguish our house from all the others) and because, if we took the tree down, we'd have to sod half the front lawn.
Sometimes my younger son and his friends like to play "hideout" under the tree. His older siblings have climbed to the very top, more than once, but he's not big enough to accomplish that feat yet.
It would have helped him out the other day, though. He and his buddy were tossing a tennis ball in front of the house. The tree caught it and wouldn't give it back. The boys came running into the house yelling that they couldn't get the ball out of the tree. I offered them a replacement tennis ball, but they weren't interested. They wanted to get that tennis ball back.
Then they got an idea. They got out the Nerf Abomination Blaster that shoots these footlong missiles. Aiming carefully, they sent the missile flying into the tree. And the tree caught it and wouldn't give it back.
Finally, I had to rescue both toys by throwing a basketball up into the tree. That was too heavy to get stuck up there, and there was no way I was climbing fifteen feet into a pine tree to get an old tennis ball.
