And it might just kill my kids. Because this is the kind of thing they do to indulge their scientific curiosity.
1. Get a "punching balloon" (the big kind, with the elastic band that ties around one end) and attach the end to the garden hose. Turn on the hose and see how big the balloon gets before the water pressure causes it to explode.
2. Dip a turkey baster in bubble solution and try to make bubbles with it.
3. Consider the reasons why root beer doesn't make as much foam if you tilt the glass while pouring. My older son thought that the Mythbusters should work on this, but then he remembered that they really only do stuff that will blow up.
4. Hide out in the kitchen, equipped with an industrial-size tub of Utz Cheese Balls, a paper napkin, and a meat tenderizer. The object of the game appears to be: see whether the flat side of the meat mallet or the "bumpy" side is more effective at pulverizing the cheese balls. In other words, how many hits does it take to reduce the cheese ball to a fine orange powder?
5. Observe that "if you sharpen your pencil too much, it gets smaller and smaller. It's a science fact."
6. Ask your father, who graduated college with a degree in meteorology, which required a lot of calculus, and who now programs computers for a living, "Dad, are you sure you know the Order of Operations?"
