If you save something long enough, it might come back in style. 
I normally stick to classic styles anyway, so my clothes are pretty basic. But I had a few things in the closet that I was afraid to wear, because I thought they looked dated. At the same time, I wasn't going to get rid of them; they were quality items and hadn't been cheap. There was plenty of wear left in them.
One of these was a long v-neck cardigan sweater. I can't even tell you how many years this sweater hung in my closet without being worn. I broke all those "home organization rules" that say that if you haven't worn something in a year or more, you should get rid of it. For some reason, I hung onto this sweater.
And then I started seeing sweaters just like it on store displays and in clothing catalogs. My cardigan was once again back in style! Only it's not called a cardigan anymore: it's a "boyfriend sweater."
I don't care what you call it. I call myself fortunate that I have a stylish, good-quality sweater for the fall already in my closet!
