Nothing charms me more than a big smile from a little kid who is in the throes of losing baby teeth. My younger son is missing two front teeth right now, and I can't help but be thrilled that he has timed the loss of his teeth to coincide with School Portrait Day.
For the next year, I'm going to get to look at that funny smile. (And for the record, I don't intend to use this school picture as bribery material when he's 16 and has a girlfriend. But I'm not ruling it out, either.) We're hoping he loses that other top tooth before Christmas. It'll make eating Christmas dinner a little tougher, but he can't wait for someone to sing that famous song to him: "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth."
Last weekend, our family attended a community Fall Festival, and my son won a few little prizes at the kids' games. One of his prizes was a jack-o-lantern paddleball game, and he noticed that the pumpkin face has the exact same smile he does. He's been showing it off to everyone who comes by.
