We have a special guest today: Janet from Snarkaholic shares her "Yikes" moment in cooking!

When my husband and I were dating, I found out very quickly that cooking was definitely not his strong suit. Once, we decided to make baklava from scratch together for a date, and I put him in charge of stirring the simple syrup as it came to a boil, cautioning him to make sure it didn’t burn. Simple, right? Well, my darling got distracted by the Minnesota Vikings game on in the background (Go Vikes!) and forgot all about it. I had no idea he’d left the kitchen, since my back was turned to the stove as I layered phyllo dough and melted butter. Suddenly, I realized something smelled like… fire. I turned around and saw a burnt mass of charred, boiling hot sugar all over the pot and stove, and a threatening plume of smoke wending its way to the fire alarm. I shrieked for help, and he sprinted back in and turned off the burner before more damage was done. Once the sugar had cooled enough to touch, we spent a good 2 hours scrubbing it off the stove and out of the pot. Now, when I need his help in the kitchen, I’m very cautious to give him step by step instructions and watch his every move!
