My mom has a small collection of little wooden carvings that she received as gifts. 
Because they're not as fragile as porcelain figurines, she used to display them on a chest at the top of her staircase.
I guess she used to show them to the grandchildren when they were small, and say, "Pretty!" because my younger son used to call these figures "The Pretties." He'd ask her to take him upstairs so he could see them.
But it would drive her crazy when, every time we visited, my little boy would find his way up the stairs and very carefully (and quietly) rearrange "The Pretties." He never removed them from the chest they sat on, but they'd all be in different places. Apparently he's the only one of her grandchildren who ever touched them.
And he only touched these figures at her house. I have three or four of them that are placed on the organ in my dining room, and he completely left them alone. (I'd know if they'd been moved, because there would be trails in the dust!)
