My dad runs a few miles every day. 
And whenever his grandchildren stay overnight, he invites them to come out running with him. They generally refuse, since Dad runs at an obscenely early hour.
But many times, when we visit just for the day, Dad takes the grandchildren out for a long walk around his neighborhood (and sometimes in the woods behind his neighborhood.) They look for beaver dams, bears and interesting rocks. On the way back to the house, everyone winds up running down the steep hill.
Last time we visited, Dad was a little disgusted. "I used to be able to beat them in a race," he muttered, "but they've all gotten bigger now, and they're fast! I can't keep up!"
I guess if he wants to be able to win a race, he'll have to challenge me. There's no way I can run several miles; he'll beat me on stamina alone. Especially if my shin-splints act up!
