hair-styleMy daughter has naturally wavy hair.  But like most teenage girls, wavy hair is not what she wants.  She wakes up half an hour earlier every day than she has to--just to straighten her hair.

I have friends who would pay to have thick, healthy long hair with plenty of body.  And my daughter wants no part of it.  So she's on her second hair straightener in a year.  The first one just plain fell apart from overuse.

I worry about her using things that get hot--and after she leaves for school in the morning, I run into her room to make sure she unplugged it.  At least this straightener has a heat-proof stand, so she doesn't have to set it down on a table, desk or the floor.

And those things do get very hot.  Yesterday as she waited for the school bus, she got a text message from her friend:  "I caught my ear in the straightener.  OWWWWW!"

At that point, I advised her to stick to her own natural wave.  But what do I know?  I'm just her mom--and my hair's not long enough to straighten.
