I'm not a big fan of using disposable stuff. mop-the-floor It seems like many cleaning products are designed to be disposable, maybe so we don't have to actually touch any dirt. But I find that the disposable products wind up being much more expensive than reusable alternatives. For example, I keep dishtowels around my kitchen to dry my hands on after I wash them. My mom uses paper towels for this job. Despite the fact that there are five people in my house and only two in hers, she goes through five times the paper towels I do.

Because I don't much care for disposable things, I was extremely irritated last week when I went to the store in search of a replacement mop head.  (Those string mops just don't work for me.  The wringer buckets are too heavy to carry up and down all the stairs in my house.)  So I have a sponge mop.  Actually, I have about four different sponge mops, since every time I need to get a new sponge for the mop, I discover that the store doesn't carry the replacements.  I tried the supermarket and two discount stores--with a list of all the mops I owned, looking for one new mop head that would fit any one of the mops.  No luck.

I wound up having to buy yet another complete mop, because the stores sell many varieties of mops but only about three kinds of mop heads.  What a waste!  How many mop handles do I need--and how many can I sanely store in my basement?

Next time I'm going online for my mop replacements, and I'm buying a whole case at a time.
