There's no way I'd ever be known as a "gamer."  Unlike my husband, who used to play Quake 2 for a couple of hours a day, I don't lose sleep over computer games. But there have been a few games over the years that have hooked my attention.  commander-keen

In college, we used Apple IIe computers.  In a class on Computer Applications for Education, we were introduced to the Lemonade Stand game.  It's a math-oriented game that challenges kids to budget for a lemonade stand.  There were hardly any graphics in it, but there was a little music here and there (it would play "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess to signal that the day had been sunny and hot--a good day for the lemonade stand.)

I didn't get into any games again until I was working and we had a considerable amount of downtime, waiting for programmers to fix the software we were testing.  A few shareware games made the rounds.  My favorites were BlockOut, which was like Tetris but in 3D, and Commander Keen (pictured here).  Commander Keen had a great backstory:  an 8-year-old boy wearing his big brother's football helmet travels through space.  He's a junk-food junkie, nourished on Pepsi, pizza, and lollipops--and he has to recover some household items that were stolen by aliens so he can fix his spaceship and return home.

A very good game that hooked me for a while was Sherlock:  a visual "logic puzzle" game.  I did really well at that one.

To my kids' disappointment, I don't really play games now.  I refuse to even start playing Bejeweled Blitz on facebook, although I do have the game for my iTouch (I've gotten to level 11!)
