My elementary-school-aged kids had a long list of school supplies that needed to be purchased before the start of school this year. 
Besides the usual pencils, notebooks and folders, they are required to bring in disinfectant wipes, tissues and hand sanitizer. (For some reason, no health-related items are requested by my high-school son's teachers. I guess no one ever gets sick in high school...)
But it's inevitable that once the kids walk through the doors of Germ Factory Elementary, they'll bring home all kinds of illnesses. Often they're just the carriers, passing it along to me while remaining healthy as horses themselves. You'll know my kids are back to school when I come down with strep throat.
Forget all this talk of vaccinations against swine flu. I'd bet parents everywhere would be thrilled if kids could be inoculated against the Big Three: strep throat, ear infections and the common cold. (Add in something that would prevent head lice and it would be a grand slam!)
