I've been avoiding it for some time now. 
But when I started losing at "The Alphabet Game" that our 7-year-old insists we play every time we get into the car because I wasn't seeing road signs and license plates fast enough, it was clear that I couldn't avoid it any longer. My eye doctor agreed.
It's time for me to get bifocals.
I've been wearing glasses full-time since the seventh grade, and that really doesn't bother me too much. But bifocals are another story. My husband has the progressive lenses that the eye doctor recommended for me as well, and he's been delighting in telling me just how challenging it is to play tennis while wearing them. This is supposed to put me more at ease about getting used to wearing a whole different kind of glasses?
At least I got to pick out a cool pair of new frames. And now I wait for them to be ready, so I can relearn how to walk down the stairs without falling. Maybe I'll do that by pretending I'm carrying a giant laundry basket--I can never see the stairs over one of those anyway, so I just look straight ahead and go. Think that'll work?
