For several years now, I've been my mother's personal online shopper. shopping I can talk about secure websites and checking for the little padlock icon and the "https" in front of the name of a website until I'm blue in the face--she will not order anything online.

But that doesn't stop her from online shopping.   Not everything she wants can be found in the catalogs that come in the mail.  And that's where I come in.  She just calls me on the phone and says, "Are you near your computer?"  Before I can answer yes or no, she's telling me what she wants me to find.  Naturally I stop here first, so I can find her a deal as well.  I've ordered books, Christmas gifts like a guitar for my nephew, clothing and more for her.  After I submit the order, she mails me a check.  Recently, a friend of hers was trying to locate some dress clothes for her grandsons to wear to an upcoming wedding.  Mom told her not to worry.  She called and asked if I could find matching sport coats for these little boys.  (I did, and they were on sale.)  Then she told her friend where to find them.

I love helping my mom find a good deal.  But if I do all the work for her, she'll never learn to do it on her own.  My mission to help her become more computer-literate by tutoring her over the phone has not gone well--you have no idea how many times I've taught her how to copy and paste, for instance.  It looks like I'll be helping Mom shop for a long time to come.

I don't do this kind of thing for just anyone, though.  The rest of you are on your own.
