Back Home Again

We had a wonderful time on our vacation. towel-animal-4-2009 While the weather wasn't the best (it was foggy most of the time and rainy some of the time, so once again we didn't need any sunscreen on our trip), we found plenty to enjoy despite the weather.

For the second year in a row, we spent our vacation on a cruise. This year we went to eastern Canada, where it was so foggy sometimes that you couldn't see from one end of the ship to the other. This meant that we got to hear the foghorn every two minutes and fifteen seconds--our daughter and her friends timed it.

We distracted ourselves from the fog and the foghorn by enjoying the wonderful food, live music and other entertainment onboard the ship. My seven-year-old was fascinated by the magic show and has been carefully practicing some magic tricks. (He's got a long way to go before he's any threat to Penn and Teller.) And each night after dinner we returned to our cabin to find chocolate mints and charming towel animals sitting on the beds.

We did miss some of the comforts of home, not to mention the space. Cramming five people into a cabin better suited for two was pretty difficult. We were tripping over each other all the time.

So even though there won't be mints and towel animals waiting at the foot of my carefully-turned-down bed every evening, it's lovely to be back home, sleeping in my own bed.
