It's summer, so it must be time for a pedicure. 
I've never had a professional pedicure, but I will admit that I feel a little more "dressed up" in the summertime when my toenails are polished. My fingernails are another story. Because I play the guitar, I've always had to keep my fingernails short. They look neat, but they also look pretty silly if I polish them, so I never bother with that. (On the upside, this means that my bottles of nail polish last twice as long--if my daughter doesn't get into them.)
I don't dare polish my toenails when the rest of my feet feel like sandpaper, though. It's easy enough to fix that. I just mix a spoonful of sugar with a little bit of olive oil to make a simple sugar scrub. It cleans away the dry, dead skin and moisturizes the feet at the same time (it's great on elbows too!)
One of the coolest things about pedicures is the variety of polish colors you can choose from. Just about anything goes, as long as it's neatly done. But take my advice: don't take your fresh pedicure to the beach. Sand is an extremely effective nail-polish remover!

Have to agree with you that sand (and salt water as well) is not much good for the nail polish, however for the rough scratchy soles of your feet a walk on the beach is perfect. So I guess it is a matter of timing!! Go for the walk on the beach then have the pedicure!
